Kiawah Cares Gives Bicycles to 135 Wadmalaw Island Students
Kiawah Cares, in partnership with the nonprofit Going Places, will be surprising the 135 students at Frierson Elementary School with donated bicycles on Wednesday, June 5. A bicycle not only encourages a child to be active, but also empowers the child with a sense of freedom, and in many cases, a feeling of self-worth, as the bike may be the first item of value a child can call their own. A bicycle is not just a gift that imparts joy, it also contributes to the foundational confidence every child deserves, and can be a building block for a positive future.
At the June 5 bicycle reveal, the whole school will be surprised at once. Then children will get the opportunity to learn how to ride their bike, care for their bike, and how to stay safe.
This event was made possible through the generosity of Kiawah community members through the 2018 Humanitarian Aid fundraiser which supported programs on Johns and Wadmalaw islands.
