Volunteer and Giving Opportunities
Sea Islands Habitat for Humanity 20th Annual Women’s Build
Each year, women in the community come together to help build a home for a local family at the Sea Islands Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build. If you have a smile and can hold a hammer, the 20th annual Women's Build wants you. This year, Kiawah women volunteers are needed for April 10 and 11. There are half-day shifts (8:30 a.m.-12 p.m., 1-4 p.m.) or a full day shift (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. with one hour break).
A $35 registration fee includes a t-shirt, snacks and lunch. Learn more and register here. When registering, in response to "How did you hear about the Build?" reply "Kiawah Women Build Team."
Donate your unused travel-size toiletries to be used for Made with Love’s ongoing “comfort packs” program.
Respite Care: Seniors with Alzheimer’s
Respite Care Charleston provides social day programs to those living with Alzheimer's and dementia, offering caregivers a much needed break while giving their loved ones the opportunity for engaging social interaction.
Volunteers are needed Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at St. Johns Parish Church on Johns Island. Volunteering with RCC doesn't require medical expertise, a background working with seniors or any special skills really - just patience, a warm smile and a willingness to try and bring joy to others! Volunteer responsibilities can vary based on the site and your interests interests and can range from helping prepare meals to coordinating activities, assisting with arts and crafts, playing games or simply talking with our program participants. The ideal volunteer is able / willing to work out a fairly consistent schedule of volunteering for at least one hour, at least once a month. Staff members are on site throughout the programs, so you'll never have to worry about getting thrown in on your own.
For more information, or to sign up for a trial visit, please contact Christina Vinciguerra at Christina@RespiteCareCharleston.org or 843-813-3051.
