Become a Reading Partner, Become a Part of Something Bigger!
Reading Partners is a nonprofit that mobilizes communities to provide elementary school aged students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level. Each year we engage hundreds of volunteers right here in SC, where only 20% of at risk 4th grade students are reading at grade level. The widespread interruptions in instruction during the pandemic have only made matters worse. It is estimated that students have lost anywhere from 7 months to a year’s worth of learning due to the interruptions.
Reading Partners is committed to ensuring that all students have the foundational skills they need to be successful in school and beyond. Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with a student to provide individualized instruction using a structured, easy-to-follow curriculum that gets results. The commitment is just an hour a week. The organization provides orientation, training and on-site support. No teaching experience is required. We are serving 13 schools in Berkeley and Charleston counties, including Angel Oak Elementary School and Mt. Zion Elementary School.
